DIEMUT TAAL — ARTIST PHILOSOPHY
Art can be a place to remember how to wonder.
I make work that lets colour think out loud: bright, strange, tender, and always a little bit in motion. My paintings are invitations to pause, look again, and find a new story in the familiar.
01
Colour is a language for feeling.
I choose colour for its emotional weight, not for perfect realism. A blue can hold a question; a red can announce a memory. Together, colours become a vocabulary for the things that are hardest to name.
02
Imagination makes room to breathe.
I’m drawn to forms that refuse to settle into one answer. A mark may become a creature, a landscape, or a fragment of a dream. That openness is where the work stays alive.
03
Wonder belongs in the everyday.
A work on the wall can quietly shift the energy of a room. I want these paintings to be companions — small reminders that joy, play, and curiosity can share ordinary space.
The work is complete when it leaves room for your own meaning.
